India ODI Squad for Bangladesh

India will be up against Bangladesh in a limited-overs series in August. This article predicts the 17-member squad for the ODI leg of the tour.

The make-up of India's ODI team for the tour of Bangladesh will be quite similar to the team that won the 2025 Champions Trophy, with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal being the three openers.

The Gautam Gambhir-led management will have an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup and will want to retain the core of he team, given that there are not many ODI matches to identify the right combination.

Looking at the conditions that will be on offer in Bangladesh, the 2023 ODI World Cup runners-up will bank on their spinners to deliver on what are expected to be spin-friendly pitches.

India will be playing their first ODI game after the Champions Trophy in March and will look to get into the groove, having played a lot of T20I cricket.

The series will be important for Rohit Sharma as he will be coming after a long break, having retired from Test cricket.

As far as Yashasvi and Shubman are concerned, both players will have the practice of the longest format of the game on their side as they will be coming on the back of a five-match Test series.

The middle order is expected to have a good amount of expierence with the likes of Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul taking the next three spots.

Having said that, it would be interesting to see if the Rohit Sharma-led side decides to give Rishabh Pant a chance in place of KL Rahul, who has been keeping wickets for India in ODI cricket.

Another aspect to watch out for in the series would be the choice of spinners. With India expected to pick five spinners in the squad, the biggest question would be whether they will play two left-arm spinners.

Or will they go with one off-spinner and one left-arm spinner, with Kuldeep and Varun being the two leg spinners?

As far as Gautam Gambhir is concerned, the World Cup winner is known to prefer depth in batting. If he decides to carry with the idea of having batting that starches till number nine, then we might see both Axar and Jadeja in the XI.

Washington might also get a go in a game or two in the three-match ODI series with the kind of backing he has had from the team management in the last few series.

India is expected to go in with four fast bowling options in Pasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Harshit Rana, with Hardik Pandya chipping in with a few overs if needed.

Prasidh will be an integral part of the series and will get good support from Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj.

It would be a tough fight between Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana for the third fast bowler's slot.

India's spin bowling department will be handled by Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, and Varun Chakravarthy, two of whom will miss out on a spot in the playing XI.
