Rob Page has returned to management for the first time since being sacked by Wales.
The former national team boss has been appointed manager of Liverpool’s under-21 side.
It marks his return to the dugout a year on from leaving his role with Wales.
Page was dismissed in June 2024 after they failed to qualify for Euro 2024.
He had spent four years in the role including an initial spell as caretaker boss.
During that time, he won 15 out of his 45 matches at the helm and oversaw both their Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cup campaigns.
Qualification for the latter was Wales’ first for 64 years as they booked their place in Qatar.
Once at the finals, the Dragons held the USA to a draw before defeats to Iran and England resulted in a group stage exit.
It came less than two years after they had featured at their second consecutive Euros.
On that occasion, they reached the knockout stages before losing to Denmark in the last 16.
However, Page was unable to repeat the feat for Euro 2024 before leaving his role as manager.
The 50-year-old will now replace long-serving Reds under-21 boss Barry Lewtas.

Reacting to Page’s appointment, Liverpool academy director Alex Inglethorpe explained: “Rob brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to a key role as young players look to bridge that gap from Academy prospect to first-team footballer.
“His recent achievements in guiding Wales to the last 16 at Euro 2020 before qualifying for the 2022 World Cup speak for themselves but perhaps less heralded is the work that took place during his time in charge of the national team, which saw numerous pathway players make it into the senior squad.
“This is something we have seen first-hand at Liverpool with several of our academy players making significant progress on the international stage under Rob’s guidance.
“This level of experience in transitioning young footballers towards the professional game and on to the highest levels of domestic and international football will be a significant resource for all at the Academy, especially the players.
“Myself and all the staff are greatly looking forward to working with Rob as we endeavour to continue producing players capable of playing at the highest level and in the most demanding of arenas.”
Page has experience working in youth football after managing Wales at under-17, under-19 and under-21 level prior to taking charge of the senior squad.
His managerial career has also included spells in the dugout at Port Vale and Northampton.
