The Honor Roll: Point Loma High athletes receive accolades

POINT LOMA – Point Loma High School’s history-making girls softball team and their coach dominated post-season honors in both all-league and all-CIF rosters announced this week.

The team not only won the school’s first California Interscholastic Federation championship, but rolled on to the SoCal Regional title.

    Named to the first team all-CIF list were infielder Leyton MacPherson, a sophomore, and senior Annika Isaacson. MacPherson batted .357, leading the team with 32 RBIs. Isaacson hit .398 and led the team with seven home runs.

    Second team honors went to junior Avery MacPherson and freshman Ella Poulin. Avery MacPherson batted .382 and led the Pointers with 39 hits. Poulin was lights out on the mound, leading the team’s pitchers with a 14-4 record and striking out 101 batters over 112 innings. 

    The team’s coach, Bill Hunyady, was named CIF’s Coach of the Year.

    For the repeat CIF champion Pointers baseball team, senior Phoenix Brant was named to the first team, the only Point Loma player recognized on a team that came within one run of also winning a SoCal Regional. Brant led the team in hitting  (.362), hits (38), and RBIs (18). He will continue playing at USD. No players were recognized on the second team.

    Sophomore beach volleyball player Aurora Fernandez and junior Caroline Tadder were named first team all-CIF. Their team went 18-7 overall and 7-1 in league play.

    Sophomore swimmer Alex Pletcher earned first-team honors by winning the 100M freestyle event at the CIF championship meet.

    Tennis player Nicholas Lilov, a junior, was named first team all-CIF after being named City League Player of the Year.

    Boys golf: All-Eastern League – Dylan Giang (12), Grant Stewart (11), Caden Clark (10), Ryan Hicks (12), Dylan Meadows (12).

    Championship team: Point Loma.

    Boys lacrosse: All Western League first team – Bryce Graulich (12), Levi Evering (10). Second team – Jack Swiderski (12), Conor Haffey (12).

    League champion: Cathedral Catholic.

    Girls lacrosse: All Eastern League first team – Mia Bendinelli (12), Bailey Serrano (12). Second team – Haylee Colton (12), Leah McGonigle (12).

    League champion: Patrick Henry.

    Boys tennis: All Western League first team – Lilov (11).

    Player of the Year: Lilov.

    League champion: Point Loma.

    Boys volleyball: All Central League second team – Trevor Rutt (11).

    League champion: Lincoln.

    Girls beach volleyball: All Western League first team – Fernandez (10), Todder (11). Second team – Lily Hagopian (10), Grace Passman (11).

    League champion: Cathedral Catholic.

    Boys track and field: All Western League first team members are winners of the league championship meet: The 4×400 relay team of Romeo Carter (11), Jonah Turner (10), Gabriel Xavier (12), Braydn Phillips (11). The 4×800 relay team of Ethan Levine (11), Dante Morales (10), Judah Ferreira (10), and Turner (10).

    League champion: Cathedral Catholic.

    Girls track and field: All Western League first team winners of the league championship meet: Karolina Gates (12), winner of 100M and 300M hurdles.

    League champion: Cathedral Catholic.

    Boys and girls swimming and diving: No all-league results are posted on the San Diego Unified School District or City Conference websites.
