Sami Sheen is putting health over vanity.
Sami, 21, took to her Instagram Stories Monday, June 23, to share a deeply personal update with her followers.
"i've been experiencing health issues for nearly 2 years now with the weirdest symptoms and finally discovered that i have breast implant illness," the daughter of Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen wrote alongside a mirror selfie in a long, gray dress. "idk how i haven't figured this out sooner but i'm so happy i finally have an answer. i'm hoping to get them removed asap so i can start feeling better."
In a follow-up Story, the OnlyFans creator reached out to her L.A.-based followers for help, adding, "pls lmk if you know of any good explant surgeons near LA."
She also posted a throwback bikini photo taken before she had implants, reflecting on the physical and emotional shift she's about to undergo.
"it's definitely gonna be hard going back to this size," she admitted. "not only physically, but mentally. i don't want to at all but i know i'll feel so much better once they are out. so i guess it's worth it."
In the post, Sami made note of the way her body has changed since undergoing the procedure, namely when it comes to her hair, some of which she says she's lost as a result.
"can't believe this is all my real hair, another thing that these implants took from me," she pointed out in the pic, which sees the model rocking long, bleached blonde locks.
Addressing others who may be navigating similar health challenges, Sami shared an empowering message: "this is your sign to always put your health first!!!"
Although breast implant illness (or BII) is not formally recognized as a medical diagnosis, the Cleveland Clinic defines it as a term used by people who experience a broad range of symptoms after undergoing breast augmentation.
And for Sami, those symptoms have been numerous—and severe.
In a separate Story, she listed what she's been dealing with: "chronic fatigue, sensitivity to temperature, hair loss, acne, headaches, memory loss, brain fog, vertigo, joint and muscle pain, mood swings and severe anxiety (always been an anxious person but nothing like this)." She added that she's also "allergic to almost everything."
While some of her fans and followers who also have implants may be going through something similar, Sami said she knows her experience may not be universal.
"not everyone who gets implants will get sick from them. it's definitely a flip of a coin, and i think i just got super unlucky," she explained. "but i'm also very grateful that i am fortunate enough to get them removed. i feel awful for all of the women that experience this and are stuck with them, cause this illness is no joke."
Sami's decision to remove her breast implants comes less than two years after she underwent her initial breast augmentation, which she said at the time was largely inspired by her famous mother's appearance.
"I was 10 years old and like, 'I can't wait to have big boobs like my mom,'" Sami told Bustle in a November 2023 interview.
Since then, Sami has also undergone a rhinoplasty, and has been open about the procedures she's opted for over the years.
