There are few franchises that have had more highly anticipated returns than Metroid, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is finally set to answer those prayers.
It's been years since the game's development was announced, and following a lengthy period of silence, the game has officially been unveiled, giving us our first look at it.
We've even had the chance to try it out when we went hands on in the Nintendo Switch 2 preview events that took place earlier this year.
So, if you're excited for the return of gaming icon Samus Aran, here's everything you need to know about when the Metroid Prime 4 release date could be, as well as the latest trailer which you can watch below!

The Metroid Prime 4 release date is 2025, Nintendo has confirmed, with the game set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
Unfortunately, the vague year-long window is all we've been told.
There was a brief period of confusion in June when, according to posters seen in the London Underground, Metroid Prime was advertised as "Out Now".
View oEmbed on the source websiteThis bizarre mixup was quickly corrected, however, with new posters going up a few days later with simply listing the same 2025 release date we already knew about.
While we would love to say that this perhaps suggests that the game is set to release soon – why else would they have those "Out Now" posters ready? – the fact of the matter is that we still have absolutely no idea when in 2025 it will come out.
At least now we know to expect it sometime in 2025 after years of speculation, with Samus's latest adventure joining the likes of Borderlands 4 and Pokémon Legends Z-A as big titles launching later this year.
Can I pre-order Metroid Prime 4?
While there isn't a pre-order page for it on the Nintendo store yet, GAME seems to be well ahead of things.
It not only has a Metroid Prime 4 page, but it's offering a pre-order price at £59.99. How this is possible when we don't know when in 2025 the game is coming out, we don't know. But you can check out the page now!
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been confirmed for Nintendo Switch, as expected.
Despite the Nintendo Switch 2 having already been announced, the game strangely hasn't been confirmed for the console yet, but we assume that it almost certainly will be.
Even if it wasn't, for some reason, the Switch 2's backwards compatibility means you'll be able to play it on there regardless.
Time will tell if the game gets a cross-platform release, but Nintendo has done similar before with Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild on GameCube/Wii and Wii U/Switch, respectively.
Metroid Prime 4 gameplay and story details
Thanks to its official reveal trailer, we now know a little bit about the gameplay in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Surprise, surprise, it's first-person again.
The famous scanner is back, as is the Morph Ball, which looks like it shares the physics and controls of the earlier Prime games.
We also know that the Missile Launcher and Standard Blaster are back – as you'd expect. It's developed by Metroid Prime studio Retro Studios, and if you've played any of the previous three games you should know what to look forward to.
For the story, details are also thin. We know that it's set in the Cosmic Year 20X9 and Sylux is involved as an antagonist, leading an attack on a Galactic Federation Research Facility along with Space Pirates and, of course, Metroids.
We did get a bit more information in March's Nintendo Direct, which confirmed that the game takes place on the planet Viewros where Samus is stranded and has to find a way home.
Strangely, she also now has some psychic abilities which look like they'll largely be used for solving puzzles dotted around the game.
