Wrexham forward Paul Mullin has joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan, it has been confirmed.
The club legend, who in four years at Wrexham has played a major part in their rise, held talks with League One Wigan last week with the move being confirmed on Monday.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: “I’d like to wish Paul all the best for his loan move.
“It’s a good opportunity for him to get back to playing regular first-team football and I’m sure he’s going to be a great signing for Wigan Athletic.”
However, Mullin will not fulfil his dream of playing in the Championship as a result of going to Wigan.
The striker has never played in the second tier, and despite his side now reaching that level for the first time, he will play no part.
He instead joins Wigan after falling out of favour following a series of injuries issues and new signings.
Mullin was not included in a single matchday squad by manager Phil Parkinson from February onwards.
His last appearance for Wrexham was against Peterborough in the EFL Trophy, when he missed a penalty in a shootout defeat.
And that could well now be his final game ever for the club.
The 30-year-old would have hoped for his fairytale story to end in better circumstances after his impressive spell.
Mullin has scored 105 goals in 165 games for Wrexham, leading them up from non-league to League One.

But it was last season that saw him fall down the pecking order, following the arrival of Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith.
A strike force that also includes Jack Marriott and Ollie Palmer, got even stronger earlier this week too, as Wrexham signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth, seeing Mullin’s chances of playing decline further.
He had already spoken openly about his distaste at being left out of the squad continuously on Welcome to Wrexham.
But, before the end of the campaign, he also revealed just what appearing for the club in the second tier would mean to him.
The forward explained: “Just to play one game in the Championship with Wrexham would be worth absolutely everything.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute here, and if we could get to the Championship, then that’d be phenomenal.”
Mullin didn’t expect to be playing though, honestly adding: “From a personal point of view, I don’t think I’ll have any part to play in it from here on in.”
And now what he thought would happen has been done, despite Parkinson’s comments on his future in May, with a loan move to Wigan set to be completed.
The Latics finished 15th in League One last season, 36 points behind Wrexham, who were automatically promoted in second.
Manager Ryan Lowe will be hoping to bring in some more firepower after his side ended the campaign as the lowest scorers.
They only netted 40 goals across the entire third-tier season.
Mullin has only scored six goals in 46 appearances at that level, but his total of 93 in League Two proves he can find the net.
He will be looking to make an impact once his move is complete as he eyes more minutes on the pitch, despite missing out on his dream.
