Man, 19, charged with murder in relation to downtown Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A 19-year-old man from Atlanta has been charged with murder in relation to a fatal shooting that took place in downtown Columbus last Saturday. 

    An arrest warrant was issued for Mohamed Fofana on Friday in relation to the fatal shooting of Jusiah Mason, 18, according to Franklin County Municipal Court documents. Jail records indicate Fofana has not yet been taken into custody.

    Fofana was in possession of a blue 2017 BMW X3 that was captured on video "driving by" and "shooting toward" Mason, court documents state. Fofana reportedly boarded a plane and flew back to Atlanta the day after the shooting.

    The deadly incident took place around 3:30 a.m. on June 14 in the area of South Ludlow Street and West Town Street. Mason was one of six people shot, and the lone victim hospitalized in critical condition. He was pronounced dead in the hospital on Sunday at 12:36 p.m. There were no other fatalities in the shooting. All victims were between 17 and 18 years old, according to police. 

    About five minutes before the shooting, Columbus police officers were called to the area due to a large gathering of people and cars. The estimated number of people was between 50 and 80, according to those who called the police. The shooting happened while officers were on their way to the scene.
