Aaron Rodgers has finally arrived in Pittsburgh, and it didn’t take him long to make an impression.
The veteran NFL quarterback had the Steelers hanging on for months before officially signing a one-year, $13.65million contract in the first week of June.
But as the old saying goes: Good things come to those who wait.
And for rookie quarterback Will Howard, there is no one better than Rodgers.
The four-time MVP represents the here and now –injury permitting he will walk straight into the starting role, and will have hopes of leading the Steelers on a deep playoff run in 2025 amid all the noise he creates.
Howard, meanwhile, was a sixth-round draft pick this year and could potentially be the future of the franchise.
Before entering the NFL, the Ohio State Buckeyes prospect would have been dreaming of working alongside a veteran like Rodgers, and now those dreams have come true.
In fact, it seems the Super Bowl XLV champion is everything Howard hoped he would be, and more.
“He’s been so awesome to me so far,” the 23-year-old said, discussing his early interactions with Rodgers.
“Obviously, we’ve only gotten to be together for about three days, but I got a really good feeling about him, about this whole QB room.
“I think we already, in this past week, meshed really well, hit it off. I think we got a good vibe, good group.
“Aaron has been so willing to help me. He’s like, ‘Literally, as much or as little as you want me to help you, I’ll be there.'”
Rodgers has already made a serious impression on Steelers rookie HowardGettyHoward, who led the Buckeyes to a National Championship this year, went on to reveal he was floored by what Rodgers did on Day 1 in Pittsburgh.
“I had an open seat next to me, and there came Aaron,” he continued.
“I just thought it was pretty cool that he was willing to sit next to me.
“I remember even Day 1, he had a couple of things that we hadn’t really gone over yet. A couple of things he was asking me for clarification on.
“I’m like, ‘Holy s***, man. Aaron Rodgers is asking me questions right now, and I’m answering them. What is going on?'”
Howard, the 185th overall pick, now finds himself in a privileged position, alongside Mayson Rudolph and Skylar Thompson in the Steelers QB room.
Howard is ready to learn all he can from Rodgers in a short spellGettyWith the Steelers, he will get a first-class football education from a future Hall of Famer, and it sounds like he is ready to soak up as much information in one year as he possibly can.
Rodgers, of course, will be focused primarily on winning.
He had a far from ideal time with the New York Jets after departing the Green Bay Packers, and if this is his last season, the 41-year-old will want to go out on a high.
But upon arriving with the Steelers, the veteran did suggest he is open to helping mentor his rookie.
“Will is a good kid. We’ve gotten to talk a little bit. I thought he did really well today,” Rodgers recently said of Howard.
“You know, he seems pretty bright, not too big for him, going through the progressions really well.
“I’m gonna be with him every single day, in every single meeting. Found my seat next to him today in the offensive meeting — whether or not that sticks — right next to Will Howard.
“So I’m going to help him out as much as I can.”
