The Rookies was an iconic police procedural that aired on ABC from 1972 to 1975. It starred Georg Stanford Brown, Sam Melville, and Michael Ontkean (Twin Peaks) as three rookie officers in the fictional Southern California Police Department. Pre-Charlie's Angels bombshell Kate Jackson starred as Jill Danko, a registered nurse who would often interact with the officers in the line of duty. Her character was married to Melville's.
The show is returning to TV beginning in July 2025 on Family Entertainment Television (FETV), which carries all manner of "beloved and timeless" shows. The Rookies will debut as part of a "Red, White and the Blue" marathon that airs on Sunday, July 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET as part of the network's Fourth of July programming.
"As with all classic series on FETV, The Rookies will air in its original, uncut format," states the press release.

"Police dramas have been essential to the viewership success of FETV," said Adam Sumrall, executive vice president of FETV and FMC, in a statement. "We are excited to welcome The Rookies to FETV, where it will pair well with other police series on our network."
The Rookies began as an ABC movie-of-the-week in 1972. It starred Melville, Ontkean and Brown as cadets Mike Danko, Willie Gillis and Terry Webster, respectively, plus Darren McGavin as Sgt. Eddie Ryker. Jennifer Billingsley actually played Jill Danko in the TV movie but was replaced by Jackson for the TV series.

The show explored the real-life situation of many 1970s law enforcement officers who were Vietnam-era military personnel and how that affected their jobs outside of the military. It was created by Rita Lakin and executive produced by famed TV creator Aaron Spelling.
Other iconic shows that air on FETV include Adam-12, Barney Miller, Bewitched, Dragnet, Emergency!, Laramie, Leave It to Beaver, My Three Sons, Perry Mason, Quincy, M.E. and The Lone Ranger. You can check the listings and schedule here.
