Wyndham Clark has apologised for smashing up the locker room at Oakmont following a meltdown at the US Open.
Images appeared on social media of damaged lockers at the Oakmont last weekend, with Clark reportedly the culprit.
And he has now taken responsibility for the damage, apologising as he spoke on the matter for the first time on Thursday.
Clark missed the cut at Oakmont in Pennsylvania after shooting a four-over-par 74 in both the first and second rounds.
That meant his major chances ended before the weekend by a single stroke, as players battled with the extremely tough conditions.
Fans were left furious with Clark’s behaviour and called for him to be banned for the foreseeable future.
However, he has now asked for people to move on as he said sorry for his behind-the-scenes actions.
Speaking after the first round of the Travelers Championship, Clark said: “I mean, I’ve had a lot of highs and lows in my career, especially this year some lows.
“I made a mistake that I deeply regret. I’m very sorry for what happened.”
He added: “I’d also like to move on, not only for myself but for Oakmont, for the USGA and kind of focus on the rest of this year and things that come up.”
Clark was asked about the incident after shooting a 64 at TPC River Highlands, finishing his round level with Rory McIlroy.
His impressive six-under start left him challenging near the top in a turnaround in success from the US Open.

The US Open incident was not the first time Clark’s behaviour had hit the headlines, as he lost his temper during the final round of the PGA Championship too.
After a poor drive down the 16th, he launched his driver at the advertising boards and narrowly missed a marshal.
He was quick to apologise, however, and wrote on Instagram: “As professionals, we are expected to remain professional even when frustrated and I unfortunately let my emotions get the best of me.
“My actions were uncalled for and completely inappropriate, making it clear that I have things I need to work on.
“I hold myself to a high standard, trying to always play for something bigger than myself, and yesterday I fell short of those standards.
“For that I am truly sorry. I promise to better the way I handle my frustrations on the course going forward, and hope you all can forgive me in due time.”
Clark will hope to keep his head in the game at the Travelers Championship and build on his impressive first round.
He will tee off with partner Matthieu Pavon for the second round of action at 5:10pm UK time, which is 12:10pm local time.
