Alabama is hoping for a big season from left tackle Kadyn Proctor in 2025, but SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic has his reservations.
Cubelic joined ESPN’s Greg McElroy on the latest episode of the Always College Football Podcast this week to discuss the nation’s 10 best offensive lines entering 2025. Alabama came in at No. 4 in the rankings, but Cubelic is concerned about Proctor coming into this season.
“I’m a little bit worried about left tackle,” Cubelic said. “Kadyn Proctor has had a little bit of a weight issue. It needs to be down for him to be great. This is the second consecutive spring that he won’t really go. Those are valuable reps that are going to be gone. Now, that could help your depth because [the reps] are going to somebody else, and if they need to fill that void, they’re going to be able to do that. So that’s a little concerning.”
Proctor is listed at 6-foot-7, 360 pounds. He was limited to non-contact drills this spring, Kalen DeBoer confirmed back in March.
Proctor is a former 5-star prospect who got off to a great start in his college career back in 2023. He made some strides last season as his Pro Football Focus grades improved in 2024 from his true freshman numbers. However, his pass blocking grade of 71.5 in 2024 lagged behind a few other Alabama starters. With Tyler Booker now in the NFL and with questions remaining at right tackle, Alabama needs a big season from Proctor in order to reach its potential up front.
Despite those concerns, Cubelic said there’s a very “high ceiling” for Alabama’s offensive line if things break right for the Crimson Tide.
“You’ve got a bunch of power that’s going to be packed into that group,” Cubelic said. “A lot of them have played snaps together, logged snaps together. High ceiling.”
Alabama will open the 2025 season with Florida State on Aug. 30.
