After a torrid time on a golf course, sometimes you just need to blow some steam off at your local Buffalo Wild Wings.
Even if you’re a three-time major winner.
Jordan Spieth was one of several big names who simultaneously battled the elements and a tremendously unforgiving course at the Oakmont Country Club for this year’s U.S. Open.
A plethora of stars failed to make the cut at this year’s third major, including Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Phil Mickelson, Shane Lowry and Justin Rose.
Although Spieth managed to survive the cut, it only served to prolong his misery.
He ultimately finished T23 with a final score of eight-over par, a respectable finish considering the treacherous conditions over the course of the weekend.
So, what better way to decompress from a hellish weekend than to chow down on some wings, drink beers and watch sports?
Speaking to the media ahead of this year’s Travelers Championship, Spieth lifted the lid on his post-U.S. Open experience as he waited for close pal Scottie Scheffler to finish his final round.
“Yeah, I had a few beers Sunday,” Spieth said.
“We were waiting on the Scheffler’s to come over here and he was after the delay. So I went to Buffalo Wild Wings with Michael [Greller, his caddie].
“And so I didn’t exactly eat or drink the way I normally do there. Most of the time it’s very, very good.
“But post-U.S. Open, I just kinda needed to throw a few back.
Spieth proved he’s one of us with his post-U.S. Open method of recoveryGetty“And then by yesterday, I was good. I’m still young enough that it doesn’t really bother me the next day.”
Spieth will look to put his time at Oakmont behind him at TPC River Highlands, which is one of the PGA Tour’s signature events.
It is a tournament Spieth has won once before in 2017 via a thrilling play-off against Daniel Berger.
The American described it as ‘maybe the coolest moment’ he’s had in the sport, a strong statement to make given he won the Masters aged 21.
But he arrives in Cromwell, Connecticut with the belief his golf is in a great place and ready to return to the winner’s circle.
“I have great memories here,” Spieth said.
The 31-year-old will hope to replicate similar scenes from 2017 at this year’s Travelers Championship“I’ve had some mixed results, but coming in right now, I feel like it’s a pretty important event for me.
“If I feel like I’ve been moving the right direction after kind of essentially missing an off-season, trying to kind of get back into it.
“Every month’s felt a little bit better. Structurally things are getting better. I’m seeing more consistent ball striking results.
“Just need to pour in some putts.”
