HENRIETTA, N.Y. – Henrietta is dealing with the aftermath of heavy rainfall for hours on Tuesday and damaging flash flooding.
The Henrietta Fire District responded to more than 100 calls during the storms, including water rescues, submerged cars, and a basement wall collapse. Eleven units were deployed to help residents, and crews worked throughout the night.
“The water had no place to go but down the driveway. I mean that road was flooded from the white gray house across the street to the other side of this house. I mean it was high,” said a homeowner affected by the flooding.
Both cars in the homeowner’s driveway were submerged in water. Residents on Blackwell Lane, including Richard, were dealing with the aftermath. Richard said there was about a foot of flooding in his basement.
Henrietta fire crews, R&GE, and the Red Cross were on the scene helping neighbors impacted by the flooding. The creek behind the homeowner’s house overflowed, covering the lawn, street, and driveway.
“The water was raging it was like a river,” said another resident. Marlene Hentschel, who had plans with her family for the evening, expressed her concern.
“I could see things floating out of the basement out of the house across the street and I was a little concerned,” she said.
