Mykhailo Mudryk charged with doping offences as FA release statement

Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with violating anti-doping rules, the FA have confirmed.

The Chelsea winger was provisionally suspended in December after testing positive for a banned substance.

It came after an out of competition doping test, with Mudryk’s ‘A’ urine sample found to be positive.

Mudryk pleaded his innocence at the time as he claimed he had never knowingly used a banned substance.

However, the FA have now charged the Ukrainian international seven months on from his initial suspension.

An FA statement read: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations.

“As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.”

Mudryk has not featured for the Blues since their Conference League win over Heidenheim on November 28.

The 24-year-old was eligible for a winners’ medal, though, with Enzo Maresca’s side went on to win the tournament.

Prior to the ban, he scored three goals and provided four assists in six matches in the competition.

He was also pictured in Poland ahead of the final against Real Betis in Wroclaw last month.

Mudryk has also been unable to train at Chelsea’s Cobham base during his provisional suspension.

Meanwhile, he was stripped of his no.10 shirt prior to the Club World Cup with Cole Palmer being issued with the squad number.

Following the revelation of his positive test, the former Shakhtar Donetsk man took to social media to respond.

In a post on Instagram at the time, he wrote: “I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to the FA contained a banned substance.

“This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.

“I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon.

“I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can.”

Mudryk still has six years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Since signing from Shakhtar in January 2023, the wide man has scored ten goals and added 11 assists in 73 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.
