Conner Smith needs some time away from the spotlight and has decided to drop out of not one but two of his upcoming shows. The news comes just one week after the country singer/songwriter, 24, was involved in a fatal car accident that claimed the life of 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins.
Smith’s would-be concerts were scheduled to take place over the weekend on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21. They included the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio as part of a Military Appreciation Concert and Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio for the Buckeye Country Superfest. While Smith will no longer be on the bill for both shows, the latter of the two will now include Vincent Mason as his replacement.
Smith’s team shared a statement, according to WKYC, which reads: “As Conner Smith takes time to privately process recent events, he will unfortunately not be performing in Akron on June 20. We appreciate your understanding and continued support during this difficult time. Conner Smith will unfortunately not be performing this weekend. Vincent Mason will be joining us at The Shoe in his place.”
On Sunday, June 8, Smith was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in a Nashville suburb when he struck and killed pedestrian Dobbins, who was walking inside a marked crosswalk, per a release provided by the Metropolitan Nashville Police. Dobbins was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she later died.
While the investigation is ongoing, the release said, “The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment.”
It is uncertain whether or not Smith will resume the rest of his concert schedule for the remainder of the year. But, according to his official website, he has a list of shows that run through November.
