* Here is a couple late Fathers Day thoughts. Anybody can father a child, but it takes a real man to be a Dad. Secondly, do you have something important to talk to your kids about? Take them fishing. When you have them on a boat, they can’t get into a huff and leave. This trick has always worked very well for me. (Oh yeah, no electronics allowed.)
Blue Lakes – Great News ! California Department of Fish and Wildlife has scheduled the Upper Blue Lake for a trout plant during the next week. With the winds dying down, the lake is once again very fishable. Bass fishing has begun to pick up as of late. Early morning hours are the best time to fish, the top water lure bite has been really good between 5:20 and 6:30 am. Run them parallel to the shore line along the brush. Later, try spinner baits or crank baits. Usually the plastic baits, like senkos, and brushhogs, pick up after the sun is on the water.
East Fork of the Russian River – More Great News ! Like Blue Lakes, the East Fork of the Russian River will also receive a trout plant during the next week. The trout fishing has been doing well. And, an additional truck load of rainbows is going to make the fishing excellent. Right after the river is stocked, the trout will strike at just about any trout bait or lure. Next weekend will be a good time to take a kid fishing. Be safe…
Lake Mendocino – Anglers beware! The weekends are a crazy, nutso zoo. Here’s how you do it on Lake Mendocino during the summer weekends. Fish early, you have until about 10 or 10:30 am before things get out of hand. The fishing from about 5:30 to about 9:30 am is pretty good.
There are still a Stripers being caught here and there with live minnows. Some fishermen are fishing the river channel all night long with anchovies and are hooking into Catfish and Stripers. Try throwing a spinner bait, chatter bait or crank bait during the first hour of daylight. Once the sun is up try drop shottin‘ a Roboworm. Like Clear Lake, the top water bite still hasn’t turned on completely. I think it might be another week or so before we can start to enjoy catching Bass that blow up on top water baits.
P.S. I had reader catch me while I was in the grocery store and tell me that there are still some very nice Crappie being caught well up into the river channel. They are liking something shiny like a small Kastmaster or tiny Rattletrap.
Lake Sonoma – The Yorty Creek and Cherry Creek areas have been producing many bass, both Small Mouth and Large Mouth. Most of them are smallish, one to two pounds. But, here and there you’ll pick up a 3 to 4 pounder. If things aren’t working for you, change it up. Try a different lure color and size. The bass are there, once dialed in you will have fun catching them.
The Bite Is On! Whatcha’ waitin’ for? Go get ‘em while the gettin’ is good!!
Be kind, Be safe, and watch out for the other guy!
