snakebyte Travel Case S2 REVIEW Stylish, Durable Protection for Nintendo Switch 2

Artistic yet Rugged Switch 2 Travel case.

Even if you were lucky enough to preorder a Nintendo Switch 2 or to snag one on release day, many accessories were just as challenging to acquire.  I wanted a Switch 2 carry case, a charging Joy-Con grip, a game card case, a screen protector, an Express Memory Card, and an extra AC adapter.  My GameStop preorder had a large bundle with these items, but unfortunately, they did not arrive on release day.  Luckily, I was able to fulfill most of my Switch 2 gear needs with tech from snakebyte.

Packaging/Unboxing:

With the handheld portable nature of the Nintendo Switch 2, a clutch-style carry case was at the top of my must-have accessories list.  The snakebyte Travel Case S2 was shipped within a semi-packaged, semi-open design.  The 11 3/4 inches long Switch 2 case had a 6 5/8 inches long by 5 5/8 inches tall midline belt-like wrap. The snakebyte name/logo was located along the top left of the panel, the product name was listed at the top right, and the “For Nintendo Switch 2” logo was provided along the bottom right.  I liked the orange accents and contrast between the orange/white colors against the dark background.  The main focal point was the product’s image on the cover panel.  The semi-packaged design covered the middle segment of the outer case, while also allowing visibility of the zipper, colorful blue shell, and carry handle.

The top panel provided the company name/logo and icons for multiple social media companies.  The orange-colored bottom panel provided a UPC barcode and product manufacturing labels.  The rear panel listed the company name/logo along the top left, a multilingual catchphrase “control your game” along the top right, and then displayed labeled images of the case in open/closed configurations.  The packaging listed the rubberized comfort handle, water-repellant outer shell, and EVA foam protective case.  It did not label the lower retention straps, 10-card carry sleeve, or elastic mesh upper segment.  Lastly, the lower portion provided contact and trademark information.

I appreciated the overall design and packaging layout. The central wrap added necessary product information, allowing the case to sell itself.  The packaging did not provide unnecessary filler, bulky padding, or plastic.  Instead, the case’s on-the-go style, marbled, blue-swirl-colored outer surface design, water-resistant surface, rubberized zipper pulls, highly mobile zipper, and rubberized carry handle could be investigated before purchase.

    Testing/Review:

I removed the central cardboard wrap and evaluated the outer surface of the 9.1-ounce case.  The case’s top/spine had a rubberized, water-resistant 7-inch long by 5/8 inches thick segment, which attached to the 3/8 inches wide by 7 1/2 inches long carry handle.  The ends of the handle were looped under the spine and stitched into the structure, resulting in a rugged/secure attachment.  The handle’s midsection had a 3 7/16 inches long rubberized coating, 1/3 inches wide at the ends, and a 5/8 inches wide midsection.  The handle had oval-shaped notches, which allowed the rubberized section to flex, bend, and comfortably accommodate my hand.  Additionally, the material was directly attached to the mesh nylon strap, preventing the rubberized grip from sliding up and down the nylon cord.  The design allowed for a Goldilocks, just-enough, 1 3/4 inches gap between the carry strap and case.

The outer water-resistant surface had an attractive marbled, paint-splatter appearance and a vibrant, clean-white snakebyte logo along the bottom corner.  The outer surface had a rugged, neoprene-like feel, similar to that of a piece of luggage, and proved resistant to scratches, scuffs, and dents over the past week.  The 24 1/4-inch-long zipper had dual rubberized zipper pulls and a smooth, open/closing action.  I opened the clamshell case and evaluated the inner panels.  The upper section measured 11 inches wide by 5 inches tall and had a 3 1/2-inch-tall by 11-inch-wide mesh segment for power cables, earbuds, or extra accessories. You will find a 7 1/4 inches wide by 4 3/8 inches tall elastic-lined panel attached to the lower edge of the upper panel.  The game card holder had five 1 3/16 inches wide by 7/8 inches tall game slots, arranged in a 5×2 pattern.   Each compartment was precisely sewn to accommodate a Switch or Switch 2 cartridge.

The lower compartment measured 11 inches wide by 4 7/8 inches tall and had dual 1/4 inches wide by 4 11/16 inches long, elastic retention straps.  The inner panels of the upper and lower compartments were lined with a soft, black-colored, anti-scratch felt material.  I lifted one of the elastic retention straps, slid my new Nintendo Switch 2 into the compartment, and then added the second strap.  I draped the game card panel over the Switch’s screen, closed the case, and zipped it shut.  The rear panel did not have rear cutouts/indentations for the posterior triggers and the top panel did not have cutouts/indentations for the Joy Con thumbsticks like some other cases.  I believe the extra spacing provided by the upper compartment allowed for the smooth segments.

    Conclusion:

The Nintendo Switch Starter Kit S2 had a very similar travel case to the Travel Case S2, but also included a screen protector, microfiber cloth, silicone Joycon grips, inline earbuds, and thumb stick caps.  Additionally, the snakebyte Travel Case S2 features were quite similar to the Nintendo branded Switch 2 Carrying Case, but lacked an included screen protector, and could be purchased for ~$20 less (~$23.00 vs $39.99). Interestingly, you can pick up the Starter Kit S2 or the Travel Case S2 at the same price point.  The Travel Case S2 provided a more premium, artistic feel than the Starter Kit S2 but lacked the additional accessories.  Both snakebyte cases will protect your Switch 2 and allow you to carry at least 10 game cards within the sewn-in panel.  You can store a charging cable, game case, microfiber cloth, or other small items within the upper compartment but is likely a bit too small for a charger block.  If you are looking for a case to carry your Switch 2, controller, and dock, consider the System Storage Organizer available for ~$35.00 (29.99 Euro).
