Big blow: Suryakumar Yadav ruled out of cricket indefinitely as medical procedure confirmed

Team India's Suryakumar Yadav has arrived in London ahead of the highly anticipated Test series between the Shubman Gill-led side and England, led by Ben Stokes. However, there is no official confirmation regarding his arrival during the off-season, as he is not part of the Test squad for the England tour.

The Indian players are in England for a five-match Test series, which is set to begin on Friday, June 20, at Headingley in Leeds. This is the first series of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for both teams. Veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from red-ball cricket in May 2025.

According to RevSportz, Suryakumar is currently in London to undergo a medical procedure. Journalist Rohit Juglan mentioned that the treatment could take between one and two months to complete.

"Suryakumar Yadav is currently in London, where he will undergo a medical procedure. The entire process is expected to take around one to two months," Rohit Juglan said in a video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Suryakumar was last seen in action for the Triumphs Knights MNE in the T20 Mumbai League 2025. The team failed to qualify for the semifinals, finishing sixth in the standings with just one win from five matches. Surya scored 122 runs across four innings at an average of 40.67 and a strike rate of 158.44.

There are no confirmed T20 matches for India at the moment. While a T20 series against Bangladesh is reportedly under discussion, it has not been officially confirmed. India are expected to tour Australia for a white-ball series in October and November.

"We can’t confirm yet whether Suryakumar Yadav will miss any matches or if he’ll fully recover in time, as the medical procedure could take a while. However, based on our confirmed sources, Suryakumar Yadav is currently in London and will undergo a medical procedure. This is significant for Indian cricket, as he is the national team captain," Rohit stated.

Suryakumar Yadav Named MVP of the Recently Concluded IPL 2025

Suryakumar had an outstanding campaign in IPL 2025, finishing as the leading run-scorer for Mumbai Indians. He amassed 717 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 167.91 and an impressive average of 65.18.

The batter scored at least 25 runs in every match and was named the Most Valuable Player of the season. Suryakumar also became the first non-opener in IPL history to score over 700 runs in a single edition.

He surpassed AB de Villiers’ previous record of 687 runs in 2016 and broke Sachin Tendulkar’s Mumbai Indians record of 618 runs from 2010. However, the Mumbai Indians could not make it to the final. The team, led by Hardik Pandya, lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2.
