The halcyon days of childhood summers spent on her family’s private island are drawn to an abrupt and catastrophic end for Cadence Sinclair Eastman but she’s not sure why.

The eldest grandchild of the wealthy Sinclair family, her story unfolds in the new Prime Video series We Were Liars.

Based on the bestselling young adult novel by E. Lockhart, it is a psychological thriller which recounts how hazy summer days at the retreat turn into a nightmare from which she cannot escape.

What is We Were Liars about?

We Were Liars follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her tight-knit inner circle of friends and family, nicknamed the Liars.

Each year they gather on her grandfather’s New England private island, for a summer of fun and adventure.

The Sinclairs are American royalty, known for their good looks, old money and enviable bond.

But when Cadence reaches the age of fifteen events take a dramatic turn, first she falls in love and then she is involved in a mysterious accident which transforms her life and those around her forever.

Returning to the island two years later, everything appears to have changed, everyone appears to be hiding something and nothing is as it seems.

Emily Alyn Lind stars as Cadence Sinclair Eastman, the eldest grandchild of the wealthy Sinclair Harris family.

American actress Alyn Lind, 23, started her career as a child actor appearing in the films The Secret life of Bees and J. Edgar and the television shows Eastwick and All My Children.

More recently, she has starred in The Babysitter movies and the shows Revenge, Code Black and Gossip Girl.

Shubham Maheshwari

Shubham Maheshwari takes on the role of Gatwick Patil, the nephew of Carrie Sinclair Dennis’s partner Ed. He is the love interest for Cadence.

This the first main role for Canadian actor Maheshwari. He previously appeared in the 2021 short film Haven Dust.

Esther McGregor plays Mirren Sinclair Sheffield, the third oldest Sinclair grandchild.

The English actress and model, 23, is the daughter of actor Ewan McGregor and has had a cameo in Obi-Wan Kenobi and played Natalie in the television series High School.

On film, she has appeared in Babygirl and The Room Next Door.

Joseph Zada

Joseph Zada plays Johnny Sinclair Dennis, the second oldest Sinclair grandchild.

The Australian actor, 20, began his career playing Toby in the 2019 film Bilched.

He went on to appear in the television series Total Control and Invisible Boys and is due to star in the 2026 film Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

When is We Were Liars on Amazon Prime and how many episodes are there?

We Were Liars makes its debut on Prime Video on Wednesday 18 June.

There are eight episodes in the series and all of them will be available to stream on Wednesday.
