The Suns are “hopeful” Kevin Durant reconsiders and wants to be traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick.
Although Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reported at least six teams are having discussions with Phoenix: The San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Clippers, Gambadoro later said Durant’s preferred landing spot would be either the Spurs or Rockets.
As Gambadoro reported Monday that Miami is unlikely to get a deal done with its current offer, Amick is reporting the Suns are hoping Durant changes his mind and reconsiders Minnesota.
With the offers from the Spurs, Rockets and Heat coming up short to this point, league sources say the Suns are still hopeful that Durant might warm to the Timberwolves possibility.
The Timberwolves do not want to make a seismic change to a roster that advanced to the Western Conference finals if Durant is not on board with the move, team sources said. The question now is whether there’s any chance of Durant coming around to the idea.

Durant has one year and $54.7 million remaining on his current contract and would be eligible to sign a two-year extension this summer. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the Heat, Spurs and Rockets are the only suitors Durant would sign an extension with.
While the Suns are working with Durant to find a trade partner, Charania reported the Suns are searching for the best deal regardless.
Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game in 2024-25 and will turn 37 before the start of the upcoming season.
