Stephen Nichols has played Steven “Patch” Johnson on Days of Our Lives for 40 years. The show celebrated the milestone with an episode that took the character and his loved ones on a trip down memory lane.
Fans were treated to a slew of flashbacks of Steve and his love story with Kayla (Mary Beth Evans). Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) joined the Johnson family for the celebration, making the episode even more special.

On the official Instagram for Days of Our Lives, several cast members honored Nichols on his big day. Evans was the leader of the pack, celebrating her long-time friend.
“Darlin Stephen, wow, 40 years. What a ride we’ve had. It’s been so much fun, and you’re amazing, and you always give me everything. Your heart. Your soul. Your love. What good friends and how lucky are we, and happy, happy anniversary to my sweetest, sweetest friend. I love you,” she said.
The caption on the Instagram post read, “Stephen Nichols isn’t just a legend on screen, he’s beloved behind the scenes, too. Hear what the Days of our Lives cast have to say as we honor his 40 years in Salem!”

Judi Evans, who played Stephen’s on-screen sister Adriene for years, and now plays Bonnie, was also featured in the video. She joked about his age before gushing over what an “honor” it is to work with him and calling him “the best.”
Other Days of Our Livesstars featured in the video tribute to Stephen included Jackée Harry (Paulina), John-Paul Lavoisier (Philip), Martha Madison (Belle), Linsey Godfrey (Sarah), Stacy Haiduk (Kristen), and Galen Gering (Rafe).
There was a second video of Stephen’s co-stars celebrating his milestone moment and singing his praises on the show’s Instagram account, too.
