Singer-songwriter Sophie B. Hawkins made a rapid ascent to fame in 1992 with her hit single, "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" — and though she's kept a relatively low profile in recent years, her devoted fans are definitely still listening.
In a video posted to Instagram on Sunday, June 15, Hawkins, 60, addressed the camera from the backseat of a car zipping through the streets of London on her way to Glastonbury, where the UK leg of her current Whaler Acoustic Tour kicks off this week.
"Back in London, on our way to Glastonbury. So excited to be here again!" she said, smiling widely.

The musician's followers were thrilled to hear about the upcoming live shows — particularly those who live in the area.
"Welcome back, so happy that you’re here!" one person gushed, with a second chiming in to say, "Can’t wait to see you in Manchester!! I’ve been obsessed with Whaler since it was released. I still know every lyric I reckon ? x"
"Are you gonna link up with @melissa_etheridge !? Oh plz make this happen! What a treat that would be for us fans! ???????? @therealsophieb," another fan begged.
In a 2023 interview with The Guardian, Hawkins revealed that even though "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" would eventually become her most successful song, it wasn't initially met with enthusiasm.
"I made a demo cassette in my bedroom but the feedback from friends wasn’t good," Hawkins recalled, adding, "I knew they were crazy — and that it was a ginormous song. Finally, after two years, by which time I had 40 songs on my cassette, I played it to Ralph Schuckett, a keyboard player who later did the beautiful string arrangements on my first album. He was more receptive."
Later, Hawkins would encounter another challenge when some radio stations objected to the song's title.
"Radio stations in the American south didn’t want the word 'damn,' but to Sony’s credit they went with it," she explained.
