Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned the exclusion of Sarfaraz Khan from India’s Test squad for the England series. The Mumbai batter was left out of the 18-member squad for the five-match Test series and instead was a part of the India A squad. Chopra reckoned that it was justified for Khan to feel bad after being snubbed for no reason.
“Sarfaraz Khan hasn’t failed…”
In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra took a dig at the selectors and said that Sarfaraz must be played in the main team if the logic of sending him along with the India A team was based on the fact that he can score runs. The ex-Indian batter pointed out that Khan had managed to get a 90+ run score in the only unofficial Test that he played against England Lions but was still dropped from the next game. Chopra further pointed out that Sarfaraz had not failed in Australia, South Africa or England yet but still hasn’t been given a chance.
“Sarfaraz Khan hasn’t done anything wrong thus far. In fact, he hasn’t done anything wrong till now. I can understand if you don’t have confidence in his technique or playing style, that he might not be able to score runs there, then you have to take a call. Then don’t send him with India A also. because you have a pre-conceived notion,” Chopra said.
Sarfaraz sizzled with a brisk 76-ball 101-run knock in the intra-squad game between India and India A. Chopra noted that Khan had scored a hundred in Bengaluru against New Zealand which was followed by a couple of failures. He was a part of the team for the Test series in Australia but never got an opportunity.
“If you think he can make runs, and that’s why he has been picked for the India A squad, then play him in the India Test team too. What wrong has he done. He made a ton in Bengaluru. Then he failed in two matches, but no one else scored in those matches. He did not even play a single match in Australia, in fact he was not even part of the conversation,” Chopra added.
