A brush fire erupted in a North County canyon Thursday afternoon, quickly growing to 25 acres.
Firefighters and officers were on scene responding to the blaze, in an area of open space behind the 7500 block of Camino Minero, near Corte Claro and Paseo Encino, close to the Carlsbad and San Marcos city line.
“Please avoid the area,” Carlsbad police warned on social media.
Reports of the fire came in before 3 p.m., according to the non-profit service Watch Duty. Authorities requested air support, including tankers and a helicopter.
The fire, burning in light to moderate vegetation, has the potential to grow to 100 acres, the service reported, but no structures are currently in danger.
The area is in the La Costa Oaks South community west of Copper Creek Falls.
