As the tributes pour in to honor the life and musical genius of The Beach Boys’ founder Brian Wilson, who died today at age 82, among the most personal was the touching tribute from his granddaughter Lola Bonfiglio, who America met during her journey this past season on American Idol.
Lola posted on Instagram: “i love you grandpa. you changed the world. you have left an invaluable mark on me and so many others and i am blessed to have had you in my life. i will forever do music in your honor. rest in music paradise?️?”

Lola included a photo of her as a toddler sitting in Brian’s lap at the piano, and as we know, she has gone on to pursue a career in music, following not just in her grandfather’s footsteps, but her mother Carnie Wilson, as well, who was one third of the ‘90s pop group Wilson Philips.

Brian’s death was announced on his Instagram post this morning with the message: “We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away,” the photo was captioned. “We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercy.”
Lola auditioned for American Idol this past March, earning a Golden Ticket to Hollywood with her performance of ‘Rainbow’ by Kacey Musgraves. Her dad Rob Bonfiglio accompanied her on guitar, and mom Carnie and aunt Wendy Wilson were also on hand and the three women harmonized to “Hold On.”
