Country superstar Shania Twain is working to put an end to food insecurity across the United States with an impressive round of donations aligning with her summer tour.
In partnership with her Shania Twain Foundation, which she founded to help children and families facing poverty and food insecurity access essential resources, the "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" songstress has funded a million meals across her tour route, which kicks off in Missoula, MT on July 7 and ends on August 2 in Hollywood, FL.
“At the Shania Twain Foundation, we believe everyone deserves access to nutritious food,” a statement from Twain read. “These donations will provide direct support in the communities of each tour stop. We can make a meaningful impact across the United States and Canada by helping to ensure that food banks are well stocked and, in turn, uplift people in every city we visit this summer.”
The organization worked directly with her host venues to identify charities in need, including the Montana Food Bank Network, FeedMore WNY, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Good Shepard Food Bank of Maine, New Hampshire Food Bank, Hershey Food Bank, Feeding Northeast Florida and Feeding South Florida in the United States, as well as Canada's Second Harvest and West Prince Caring Cupboard.
The generous move comes after fellow musical icon Taylor Swift made similar contributions along every stop of her Eras Tour, with recipient food banks emphasizing the impact of such donations.
“I don’t think most people understand how many people face food insecurity,” Mark Coleman, a spokesperson for Seattle hunger relief organization Food Lifeline, said at the time. “Right now, one in five children are growing up in food insecure homes."
Shobana Gubbi, the chief philanthropy officer of Second Harvest of Silicon Valley in San Jose, pointed to a post-pandemic decline in contributions, noting, “Everything costs more than it did three years ago and donations are not at the same level as they were, but the need is at the same level as it was at the peak of the pandemic.”
