I’ve been trying different types of magnetic wallets for a couple of years now trying to find just the right fit. I want something that will provide protection for my cards through RFID blocking, keep my cards physically secure so they don’t fall out, and can be carried easily with my iPhone. User Experience
The box for the wallet is simple and only has the name of the product and brand on it. The back does have a sticker on it that includes the product name and a UPC code. This was very helpful because the name on the front “Mag Flip” didn’t match what was on the website. I matched the UPC code from the website to the box and it is the same product, but with different monikers. Since this can be confusing for consumers, I think SUPCASE should take a look at this naming mixup.
When I opened the box and pulled the wallet out it was in a little plastic tray and came with magnetic adhesive pad. It says it’s provided for users with non-MagSafe devices. I took the wallet out of its plastic and started looking it over. The first thing I thought was that it was heavy. It weighs in at 5.6 ounces, which is only 1.4 ounces less than the iPhone 16 Pro and 2.3 ounce less than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. It’s also a little on the bulky side of magnetic wallets. It is 0.63 inches depth whereas both the iPhone 16 Pro models are only 0.32 inches in depth.
The magnet is strong. I tried shaking my phone off the wallet and it didn’t work. I haven’t noticed the wallet slipping or feeling less than secure while it’s attached to my phone.
When it comes to functionality, I found this wallet to be a little quirky. The cards are held in place by the folding hinge that doubles as a kickstand. The problem is that this hinge locks into place and it’s hard to open up. In addition to the difficulty in opening the hinge, the instructions for how you are supposed to open it are located inside with the RFID blocking card. So, if you are having trouble figuring out how to open the card pocket the first time, the only clue is locked inside.
Even though it may sound as though I’m nitpicking this wallet, I actually do like the design of it. It looks like ‘defender’ style cases and I have no doubt that these wallets can take an impact. I really like the style of the cases, too. The combination of metal and matte finishes make it feel modern and industrial, which I really like. The stand is also very sturdy. There are several options for viewing angles with your phone and the wallet stand makes it very easy to use.
After collecting my thoughts, I revisited my ideal MagSafe wallet criteria:
Provide protection for my cards through RFID blocking: The SUPCASE Magentic Wallet does this, but it’s through the use of a card that can be removed from the wallet. I’m not a big fan of the fact that I can carry one less card because the RFID protection comes from a card. Keep my cards physically secure so they don’t fall out: I have no doubts that the wallet can hold my cards securely. The hinge keeps the cards safely inside the card pocket and that isn’t going to easily fall open with out it being pulled open. Can be carried easily with my iPhone: The wallet is MagSafe compatible, which makes it easy to keep with my phone, but because of its size and weight, it’s not as easy to carry as some other MagSafe-compatible wallets.I’m not entirely sure that I’ll carry this wallet everyday, but it might be right under certain circumstances. I think what it really comes down to is what the user’s particular style is and what their preferences are.
