FURIOUS fans have threatened to boycott Amazon Prime following the announcement a beloved drama has been cancelled.
Despite initially ordering two seasons of the show – created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and husband Daniel Palladino – Amazon Prime has confirmed Étoile won’t be returning.
The first season premiered in April and the official reason given for the decision to axe the series is that its performance didn’t justify the cost of production.
Étoile was set in the world of professional ballet and told the story of two world-renowned dance companies – one in Paris and the other in New York – attempting to save their institutions.
It starred the likes of Luke Kirby and Charlotte Gainsbourg and was the latest show from Amy, following The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Reacting to the news of Étoile’s cancellation, angry viewers have insisted they’ll boycott Amazon Prime.
One wrote on social media: “Amazon apparently can’t afford to pay for 2nd seasons because acclaimed niche shows should either become overnight smash hits within a month without proper PR support OR get cancelled.”
Someone else said: “Amazon Prime has just been cancelling shows recklessly, their new management is terrible.”
And a third added: “Guys just switch to Apple TV, they don’t cancel the shows without giving them proper growing time.”
Amy previously revealed how much work went into creating Étoile, confessing it was a struggle to find someone who could translate the scripts she’d written in English.
She told Entertainment Weekly: “That put us through the hardest process we went through.
“Which was finding the right translator who could make the dialogue work rhythmically with what we needed it to work with.
W[They had to] make it make sense and retain the humor if you’re listening to it in French. It was super tricky.”
Amazon Prime has cancelled ten shows this year, including Kevin Bacon’s The Bondsman.
