It will be financed by the team’s owner Joe Mansueto. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the project will cost $650m and will be designed by California’s Gensler.
It has been designed to host larger concerts and also other sports matches, trade shows and community events.
Current Chicago Fire season tickets holders will be given the priority in selecting new seats, but new seating prices have not yet been revealed.
Joe Mansueto said: “This project is more than just a stadium. It’s a space for fans of all ages, backgrounds and neighbourhood’s to come together and celebrate the beautiful game – right in the heart of our city. It’s about investing in Chicago, not just on match days, but every day as a committed community partner.”
The stadium is due to open in Spring 2028, with construction slated to begin by the end of this year.
