Legendary Actor, 73, Turns Heads in Rare Red Carpet Appearance

Legendary actor Harvey Fierstein made a rare red carpet appearance for the 2025 Tony Awards, held on June 8.

For the event, Fierstein wore a striking blue suit, a bright plaid bowtie, and matching shoes. He accessorized the look with his signature glasses and a beaded clutch, cheekily adorned with the word "snacks." He also painted his nails in a color that complimented his suit.

Fierstein, who has been in films like Mrs. Doubtfire and Independence Day, is a star on both stage and screen. The actor was honored with the 2025 Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement during the June 8 event.

Fierstein spoke to Playbill after receiving the award. The actor, who won Tonys for his performance in Hairspray and for his book for La Cage aux Folles, said being handed the 2025 Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement felt "heavy."

"It's like you lived your life good. Well thank you. I tried. I did. I tried to live life well," said Fierstein with a laugh.

Fierstein also shared that he wrote three speeches in preparation for receiving the award.

"I wrote three speeches. The first one, of course, was all political. And I knew I would never give that because I wasn't going to give this moment away to hate," said Fierstein during the interview. "And to anger. And the second one was sort of silly. And I said, 'This deserves a little bit more.' And I want this to be about community and how I was welcomed in. And that's what it was about."

He also said that he hoped his fans heard an important message from his speech.

"There's a line in the speech that I hope people heard, which is no one does theater alone," said the actor.

In addition, Fierstein jokingly shared what receiving another Tony means to him.

"One more thing to dust. It's a lovely thing. I have seven of these things now. Got seven of these to dust," quipped the Mulan star.
