Roseanne Barr is standing by her 2018 post on Twitter (now known as X) that led to the cancellation of her hit show Roseanne, and she seemingly has no regrets about it.
In an interview with Variety published on Friday, June 6, Barr, 72, explained that she was acting on divine inspiration when she posted the controversial message.
"God told me to do what I did, and it was a nuclear bomb," she said to the outlet, adding that the aftermath of the tweet led over 2 million Americans to Google Valerie Jarrett and the Iran deal, which was her intended result. Barr referenced the backlash that followed her Tweet, but stood firm in her position, saying, "So, whatever."

In 2018, Barr posted a side-by-side photo of Jarrett, a former advisor to Barack Obama, and Helena Bonham Carter, writing, “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” Barr claimed that she didn’t know Jarrett was Black and that she thought the tweet’s caption was a perfect match to an image she had seen. “I had my laptop there in bed, as always, and I opened it, and there was [a Twitter post with] a picture of Valerie Jarrett next to Helena Bonham Carter in full makeup as Ari in Planet of the Apes, and they looked like Xerox copies of each other, so I captioned it,” she explained.
The actress also admitted to having been drinking and on Ambien when she sent it, recalling how God “woke her up” the night of the tweet. However, Barr’s controversial post led ABC to cancel the Roseanne revival, which had been renewed for a second season. ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey called the tweet “abhorrent,” and Barr was swiftly fired, with Disney CEO Bob Iger reportedly approving the decision.
