Roseanne Barr isn't holding back when it comes to the past controversies she's been embroiled in.
Remaining fiercely unapologetic for the controversial comments she made in 2018 that all but ended her career in mainstream entertainment, the 72-year-old comedian has defended her past behavior in a recent Variety interview, telling the publication, "I said, ‘I’m gonna go out with the biggest bang that’s ever hit this f**king show business, even if it kills me.’"
While Barr's social media post comparing Obama-elected official Valerie Jarrett to a character from Planet of the Apes ultimately resulted in Roseanne's cancellation in 2018, Barr has refused to walk back her previous comments.
"The way I feel about it is that God told me to do what I did, and it was a nuclear bomb,” Barr said of the post and the subsequent backlash she faced as a result. “The day of my tweet, over 2 million Americans Googled Valerie Jarrett and the Iran deal. And that was my intent. So, whatever.”
Though Barr herself has held a clear view of her past controversies, she also weighed in on the ongoing scrutiny faced by Harry Potter's creator, J.K. Rowling.
Rowling -- who has garnered her own share of controversy for her alleged anti-trans views -- has recently made headlines for celebrating a U.K. court ruling against the transgender community, posting on X, "I love it when a plan comes together" in response to the court's decision.
Weighing in on Rowling's personal views, Barr shared some harsh words for Harry Potter's author, criticizing the writer for taking credit for the court's decision in the United Kingdom.
“Well, she didn’t stick up for me, so f**k her,” Barr said of Rowling. “She’s a successful artist, and they did hound her because she’s a woman and also has some common sense, but there are women who actually fought and got that law passed, and they’re the ones we should be celebrating. And they ain’t J.K. Rowling.”
