Beth cast: Who stars in Channel 4 drama, and where you’ve seen them before

A drama about a young couple desperate for a baby may seem an all-too-familiar story but Beth is breaking new ground for Channel 4 in the way it is being launched.

The science-fiction drama, written and directed by Uzo Oleh, will be released on YouTube before it is shown on television.

It stars Nicholas Pinnock and Abbey Lee as Joe and Molly, who appear to have it all – deeply in love, career successful and living the high life. What they don’t have is a much-wanted a child, until Molly falls pregnant after years of false hope, in what appears to be a miracle.

Months later, their baby daughter Imogen is born – but she bears no resemblance to Joe.

As the truth of her origin emerges, it threatens to unravel their marriage and rock the foundation of humankind.

Thomas Pullen, Channel 4’s digital commissioning executive, said: “From the first moment I read Beth, I had goosebumps at the prospect of commissioning this incredible story built on two amazing characters in Joe and Molly.

“This project is truly groundbreaking for us – showing that short, episodic drama can attract incredible talent both in front of and behind the camera.”

Beth comes to Channel 4 on Monday 9 June at 10pm. The 45-minute long drama will be shown in its entirety on the channel during the evening.

But it is also available from Monday on Channel 4’s YouTube channel in three 15-minute installments.

This is C4’s first digital original drama to premiere on YouTube ahead of the television version.
