ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After 200 years, the historic Lafayette made its return to the Rochester area.
On June 7, a reenactment of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour stopped by the Corn Hill Marina along the Genesee River as part of its four-stop tour in Monroe and Ontario counties.
Several veterans groups were there and there were also speeches highlighting the 200th anniversary.
“The sense of patriotism is very important,” said Catherine Blind, the coordinator of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s. “We’re a nation that’s still pretty young…we always have to keep that in mind.”
The Lafayette also made stops in Geneva, Canandaigua and Mendon on June 7. These visits to Monroe and Ontario County are part of the farewell tour that kicked off in August of 2024 in New York City.
