One does not need a lip-reading degree to know what Daryl Gurney told Gary Anderson.
Suffice to say, it wasn’t exactly pleasant.
But what sparked Anderson to blow up at his rival and prompt Gurney to issue a two-word response?
Well, let’s wind things back a little.
Gurney and Anderson collided in the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Grand Prix in Dublin.
Two-time world champion Anderson reached the final eight thanks to a 3-0 victory over Jeffrey de Zwaan while Gurney booked his spot with a gritty 3-2 win against Ron Meulenkamp.
But it was Gurney, the defending World Grand Prix champion, who looked the goods.
‘Superchin’ whitewashed Anderson 3-0 in a sizzling display on the oche as he finished with an impressive 92.72 average.
Anderson could only muster an average of 78.99, a drastic drop from his 88.91 and 90.91 averages in his previous two contests at the tournament.
Gurney also pinned 75 per cent of his attempts at double and hit five 180s, cementing his dominance against the Scot.
Despite Gurney’s brilliance, the match remains in infamy for what happened after he pinned double-20 to secure the victory.
As the pair shook hands, Anderson had some words for Gurney before he stormed off stage.

What was that grievance, exactly?
“Gary was trying to say I was mumbling behind him,” Gurney said on Sky Sports.
“I’ve never mumbled in any game I’ve ever played in my life.
“Honestly, I’m disappointed in him. I’m still a darts fan and I’m a big fan of Gary Anderson, but when he turns around and says I was mumbling behind him, I’m not best pleased really.
“I’ve never, ever in all the games I’ve played him talked behind his back or anyone’s back and for some strange reason he thinks I was muttering.”

“The only reason I’d be throwing faster is to stay with Gary’s pace,” he said.
“He likes playing people fast, if I wanted to play games I could have slowed him down and messed about, but I grabbed my darts and I was out of the way.
“I never stood once in his way when he was on a finish or starting off so honestly I don’t know.”
Sadly for Gurney he was unable to retain his title, as his path ended in the semi-finals at the hands of eventual winner Michael van Gerwen.
