MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharmas IPL 2026 participation stamped together

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have three of India’s biggest cricket legends: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni. In IPL 2025, Virat Kohli played a key role in helping RCB finally win their maiden title.

Rohit Sharma also had a strong season and helped the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians to reach the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2, where they faced defeat against the Punjab Kings. But it was a tough season for both MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings.

Dhoni had to return as CSK captain mid-season after Ruturaj Gaikwad got injured and ruled out of this season. The five-time IPL champions struggled with form and tactics, and many felt this could be Dhoni’s final year in yellow. However, neither CSK nor Dhoni made any remark on his IPL future.

However, former Australia skipper Michael Clarke believes that Dhoni is still the heart of CSK and should come back next season. He also shared his thoughts on Kohli and Rohit’s future in the IPL. Clarke expects all three legends to return for the IPL 2026.

The Aussie called Dhoni “king” of Chennai Super Kings and warned that when the legendary wicketkeeper-batter eventually retires from the IPL, the impact on the franchise both emotionally and commercially will be massive. He noted that CSK have massive fans because of Dhoni.

MS Dhoni is the king of CSK: Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke said on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, “I think MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma will play in next year's IPL. MS Dhoni is massive. Every time Chennai plays, even in away games, there are more Chennai fans than any other fans. Sponsors, they are there because of MS Dhoni. The fans, they are there because of MS Dhoni.”

The former Australian captain further added, “He is the king of that franchise. They want him to keep playing, and I don’t think people realize the impact. When he decides to retire, it will be a huge loss to the franchise.”

Virat Kohli named in complaint over Bengaluru stampede tragedy

Meanwhile, a complaint has reportedly been filed against cricketer Virat Kohli at Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park Police Station over the tragic stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, which left 11 people dead and many injured.

The complaint was made by social activist HM Venkatesh, who accused Kohli of promoting gambling through the IPL, saying it attracted a massive crowd and led to the tarrying tragedy.

However, police sources claimed that no FIR has been registered yet against the RCB icon, but the complaint will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation into the heartbreaking incident.

Venkatesh said in his complaint, “Virat Kohli of the Bangalore RCB team is the most prominent among those who participated in such gambling and incited people to gather in a specific place and caused this tragedy. Therefore, we request you to please make Virat Kohli and his team members accused in the FIR of this tragedy and take action.”
