Elon Musk has attacked one of Donald Trump’s central policies days after leaving the White House, branding the President’s spending bill a “disgusting abomination”.
Last month, the US House of Representatives passed what Trump calls his “big, beautiful bill” – a combination of tax cuts and spending commitments that experts say will increase the federal deficit by $3.8trn (£2.8trn) by 2034.
Musk, who drove efforts to reduce government spending during his 130 days at the White House, took to his social media site X to criticise the “outrageous” piece of legislation, which he said would “burden America citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt”.
The Tesla owner, who stepped down from his role in the Trump administration on Friday, posted: “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.
“Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
