Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa opened up about Suresh Raina’s claim to become the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach. Uthappa stated that Raina was joking when he revealed that he could become CSK’s batting coach next season.
Uthappa, however, backed Raina to become the next CSK’s batting coach, as it would be interesting if he takes up the role next season. Raina won four IPL titles with CSK and played his last season in 2021.

When Raina revealed that he would coach CSK in the next season during an IPL match, Uthappa personally asked him about it, and he stated that he was joking about the possible role in the next season.
“I actually personally asked Suresh. He was telling me he was just kidding. I don’t know and to be honest, you never know about these things, but maybe there is interest for him to be the batting coach of CSK. It is a conversation they have to have with each other but it will be interesting if they can make him the batting coach,” Uthappa stated on his YouTube channel.
The chat about the CSK’s batting coach started in the commentary box as Aakash Chopra asked Suresh Raina if the name of the next batting coach of CSK began with the letter S. Raina didn’t reply straight away with his name, but said that the player had scored the fastest half-century for CSK in IPL history.
Mr. IPL had the record of fastest half-century for the yellow jersey as he smashed a half-century in just 16 balls against Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2024.
CSK management reacts to Suresh Raina taking over the batting coach role
CSK’s assistant coach Sridharan Sriram reacted to the possibility of Suresh Raina taking up the batting coach role for the franchise in the next season. Sriram replied that he was not aware of any news regarding Raina taking up the role.
Sriram stated that he will ask Raina directly about the claims, and Sriram has no idea about what will happen in the next season. Currently, Mike Hussey is the batting coach of CSK, and with their poor performance in the batting department, Raina raised his name for the role.
CSK’s poor performance with the bat in IPL 2025
With Raina raising his name to become the next batting coach for the CSK, because CSK’s batting performance was poor in the IPL 2025. They finished in last position for the first time in IPL history as CSK won just four matches out of 14 games.
No batter from CSK scored 400 runs as their top batter was Shivam Dube with 357 runs, with one half-century. Ravindra Jadeja was their second-highest run-getter in IPL 2025 with 301 runs in 14 matches.
CSK’s mid-season signing Dewald Brevis, who played only six matches, is their third-highest run-getter with 225 runs in six games.
