Liverpool ready to lowball Bournemouth for Milos Kerkez

Bournemouth are braced for a first official bid from Liverpool for left-back Milos Kerkez as early as this week, with the Hungary international keen to make the move.

Liverpool look set to spend close to £200m this summer on a major strengthening of the squad that won the Premier League and remain locked in talks for Germany international Florian Wirtz after an initial bid was rejected.

The Reds have tabled a club record £109m on offer for Wirtz and there is confidence at Anfield that they can broker an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for what would be a real statement signing.

But that will not be the end of Liverpool’s spending, with Bournemouth’s £45m full-back Kerkez also on their radar as they look for competition for Andy Robertson.

Whether a deal can be struck quickly is another matter, with the Cherries determined to get what they believe is market value for the 21-year-old.

Despite feverish speculation over the last couple of weeks, no bid has yet been tabled and it is anticipated that Liverpool’s first offer will come in lower than Bournemouth’s asking price.

A deal with achievable add-ons is a possible compromise but, having sold Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid for £50m, there is no pressure on Bournemouth to sell on the cheap.

As The i Paper revealed last month, Kerkez was also interesting Manchester City but with the player’s preference to move to Liverpool, the Citizens have now moved on to Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri.

They have a clear run at the 23-year-old, who is also valued around the £40m  mark, and there is some confidence that a deal can be struck for the player during the short June transfer window that precedes the Club World Cup in the US later this month.

City want to get a string of deals done quickly, and are also keen on Lyon forward Rayan Cherki and AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, while they are prepared to let Jack Grealish depart.
