A Metro security guard shot a man in self-defense after being stabbed along with another guard in an unprovoked attack at the Metro North Hollywood Station on Saturday, May 31, authorities said.
The two armed security employees were at a guard booth at the transit station, at Lankershim and Chandler boulevards, when the man approached them around 5:20 p.m. It happened on the street level above the train station, which is underground.
The suspect reportedly appeared agitated after he was issued a transit-related citation and stabbed the two employees at the stop, Los Angeles Police Officer Jeff Lee said.
It was unclear if the guards issued the citation.
One guard drew his weapon and shot the assailant in self-defense, a Metro spokesperson said in a statement.
The suspect, whose details were not released, was hospitalized in critical condition.
Lee said the two injured guards were transported to a hospital and were reported to be stable.
No additional information was available.
