CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Renovation plans for the Charlotte Transportation Center in Uptown are moving forward, and officials say that means terminating the leases of the six stores and restaurants inside the main bus station.
Charlotte Area Transit System issued the following statement:
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) continues to move forward with renovation plans for the Charlotte Transportation Center (CTC). On May 20th, CATS notified tenants at the CTC that we will not continue with their respective lease agreements. To expedite the implementation of safety, operational and cosmetic improvements, CATS must close retail operations at the CTC.
CATS is providing relocation assistance to the impacted tenants. This includes support connecting these tenants to relocation advisory services. Monetary support is also available for moving and reestablishment expenses.
This decision was made based on feedback from our riders and community regarding the needed enhancements at the CTC. We continue to reimagine how the space at CTC can better serve our operators, employees and passengers.
Over the next several months, CATS employees and riders will notice additional safety improvements at the CTC. CATS is establishing a Fare Zone, restricting access to the site for ticketed customers and employees only and will be begin renovations at the CTC to further improve safety and security. Future improvements will also include increased lighting, additional security cameras, enhanced crosswalks and other upgrades enhancing the experience at the CTC.
CATS is excited to be moving forward with these changes as we believe the space will better support the transit needs of our community. Additional new amenities and specific plans will be announced later.
