Texas is gearing up for one of the best season-opening games that college football has seen in a while. However, the time slot for that game has been a hot-button topic, but the Longhorns ultimately shot down an attempt to move that kickoff time.
According to reports from Front Office Sports last week, Ohio State approached FOX about moving the Aug. 30 season opener to Sunday, Aug. 31, in primetime. The Buckeyes received approval from the network, but it was reported that Texas blocked the idea.
On Wednesday, Texas AD Chris Del Conte confirmed they were approached about moving the game, but he said it was not a serious consideration for the Longhorns.
“Why would I want to move the game to Sunday night and have a short week?” questioned Del Conte, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The AD also said he’s “got to go to church” on Sunday.

Ever since the kickoff was announced, many fans have complained about FOX designating the game for the network’s “Big Noon Kickoff” window in what is likely to be a top-5 matchup and could be a historic No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown to open the season. Steve Sarkisian and Ryan Day led their programs to the College Football Playoff a season ago, where the Buckeyes would take down the Longhorns in a dramatic semifinal conclusion.
Now, Ohio State enters the 2025 season looking to defend its crown with Texas and the rest of the pack looking to take down the Buckeyes.
