Flights headed in and out of Denver International Airport were grounded Tuesday morning amid dense fog in Colorado, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The FAA issued the ground stop at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday and expect it to last through at least 7 a.m., according to an alert from the agency.
As of 6:25 a.m., 50 flights had been delayed at DIA and 22 had been canceled, according to flight tracking software from FlightAware.
United delayed six flights and canceled 11, SkyWest delayed 17 flights and canceled seven, American Airlines delayed one flight and canceled two, Frontier delayed two flights and canceled two, Alaska Airlines delayed two flights and Southwest delayed 16 flights.
The thick morning fog is expected to last through 9 a.m. and could drop visibility down to a quarter mile in areas, according to the National Weather Service.
Travelers headed to the airport won’t be able to take the Regional Transportation District’s A Line until further notice on Tuesday, according to a service alert from the agency.
Shuttle buses will replace the commuter rail line between the 61st and Peña Station and Denver International Airport. The A Line will still run from Union Station up to the closure.
RTD officials did not say what caused the change Tuesday morning.
