David Burtka has a busy Father’s Day 2025 planned.
“I don’t even know when it is, June? We have such a [few] crazy weeks ahead,” Burtka, who is married to fellow actor Neil Patrick Harris, exclusively told Us Weekly while attending Night at the Pier, Family Equality’s signature fundraising gala, at Pier 60 in New York City on May 12. (The event raised a reported $1.5 million.)
“[Neil] is filming a movie in Glasgow. I’m doing the new reboot of The L Word, so I’m going back and forth to Vancouver. It’s been weird,” he added.
Burtka, who shares 14-year-old twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott with Harris, told Us he “finally went back to work acting,” before teasing that he doesn’t know if he’s “allowed to say anything other than” he appears in the long-awaited The L Word reboot.
TV's Best Gay Couples
“It’s good,” he continued of his personal and professional life. “We’re juggling kids and jobs and lives.”
The stereotype-shattering series about a group of lesbians in Los Angeles is set to make another return, more than a decade after the original show’s divisive finale and two years after The L Word: Generation Q was canceled following its third season.
The show’s original stars, Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey, fought hard to bring the show back. “[We] actively tried to bring the show back,” Beals, 55, exclusively told Us back in 2019. “It was something that was important to us, and we saw that there was a place and a need for it still.”
After Showtime decided not to renew The L Word: Generation Q for a fourth season, a reboot of the 2004 original, tentatively titled The L Word: New York, has reportedly been in the works with creator Ilene Chaiken attached.
Stars Who Shared the Screen After Getting Married
In addition to their busy filming schedule, Burta and Harris have their hands full as parents.
“It’s tough. And being a kid in this day and age with what’s going on politically and the pandemic and social media, it’s a really tough time to be a kid,” Burtka told Us of the difficulties raising teenagers in the year 2025. “So I don’t envy any kid going through the world in this day and age. It’s tricky. But they’re really good kids. They’ve got good heads on their shoulders, but they’re also teenagers. It’s a hard place to be. The emotional switch goes quickly.”
He continued, “Everyone’s going through this change and it’s weird. [When you’re a teenager] you don’t know who you are, you don’t know why you fit, and it’s tricky. But my hat’s off to them. They’re here tonight representing us, I’m super proud that they’re here.”
