Beyonce’s Best Onstage Moments With Her Kids: Blue’s Dance Debut and More

Beyoncé is one of the most famous and decorated pop stars of all time, but she’s also a mom — and sometimes she can’t resist making her public appearances a family affair.

During her Renaissance World Tour in 2023, the Grammy winner was joined on stage multiple times by her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, who was born in January 2012. While some observers assumed Beyoncé was a typical stage mom who encouraged Blue to take up dance, the “Tyrant” singer said that wasn’t the case at all.

“Blue told me she was ready to perform, and I told her no. I did not think it was an appropriate place for an 11-year-old on a stadium stage,” the Houston native said during her 2023 concert movie, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé. “All the things that I had to go through and obstacles I had to overcome prepared me, and she hasn’t had that struggle. I made a deal with her, and I said, ‘If you practice and you show your commitment, I’ll let you do one show.’”

Blue took her mom’s word to heart, practicing so much that one show became several, followed by another dancing stint on the Cowboy Carter Tour in 2025. At several shows, her little sister, Rumi, joined the fun too, waving to the crowd alongside her family. (Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z welcomed Rumi and her twin brother, Sir, in June 2017.)

While Rumi isn’t dancing just yet, her grandma Tina Knowles confirmed that she already loves the spotlight. “I said, ‘How do you feel when you wave and everybody screams?’” Knowles recalled during a May 2025 Matriarch book event in Brooklyn. “She said, ‘It feels powerful.’”

When Beyoncé accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, she performed a medley of her greatest hits — and Blue was in the audience, bopping along on her dad’s lap. Later, Jay-Z brought his daughter up on stage with him to present Beyoncé with her moonperson as the crowd chanted her name. “Blue Blue, I love you,” the singer told her daughter after thanking her fans.

Like Blue, the twins made their stage debut while still in the womb when their expectant mom sang Lemonade‘s “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles” at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. That night, she took home trophies for Best Urban Contemporary Album for Lemonade and Best Music Video for “Formation.”

Blue danced at several shows on her mother’s world tour in 2023. Beyoncé noted that she was not initially a fan of the idea — and she made sure her daughter worked hard to earn her place. “She has been creating characters since she was 3. She’s a natural, but I did not want Blue onstage,” the “Hold Up” artist told GQ in 2024. “Blue wanted it for herself. She took it seriously and she earned it. And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes.”

Beyoncé gave several of her Cowboy Carter songs a live debut — appropriately in her hometown of Houston — during the halftime show of the Texans’ Christmas Day football game against the Baltimore Ravens. Blue was part of the festivities, line-dancing alongside her mom in a Cowboy Carter sash during “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

Beyoncé didn’t perform at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, but she finally got her well-deserved Album of the Year trophy — and she brought Blue with her to accept the honor.

Blue has returned to the stage several times throughout her mom’s 2025 tour, this time with her little sister, Rumi, in tow as Beyoncé sang “Protector.” Rumi excitedly waved at the crowd and took a moment to hug her mother as the crowd cheered.
