MEMORIAL Day is finally here, and it’s more crucial than ever that you know where you can go to shop and eat.
Several major chains in the US, from retail to dining, have announced if they are open on Memorial Day or not – here’s what you need to know.
Americans all across the country need to know what chains they can rely on, and which ones have closed their doors for the day.
On top of this, key services have been frozen, meaning you have limited access to some of the most vital parts of day-to-day life.
The US Sun has been reporting on everything you need to know on the run up to Memorial Day.
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Memorial Day is the “nation’s foremost annual day to mourn and honor its deceased service men and women.”
Memorial Day dates back to the 1860s, and was originally called “Decoration Day.”
GETTING GROCERIES
Some of the biggest names in the game will be closed for Memorial Day, such as Costco.
Costco typically closes for the major holidays every year, like July 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
In its place, worthy alternatives like Walmart and Target will remain open, the potential difference being limited store hours.
Walmart has already confirmed it will be open as usual, but Target‘s store hours will vary on location.
Americans are therefore advised to check their local store online before going out.
There are more grocery retailers open on Monday, too, including the likes of Kroger, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods.
Sam’s Club is also still standing, and will be open from 8am to 6pm for Plus members, while Club members get it from 10 am to 6pm.
RELY ON RETAIL
You also need to know what retail stores you can rely on, with many old favorites sticking around to serve.
The Home Depot and Lowe’s will continue to battle it out for another day, as both are open for Memorial Day.
If you suddenly find yourself needing a TV, Best Buy will also be open with regular hours on Monday, as revealed by The US Sun.
And if you work up a craving for some fast food treats, the sector is actually one of the most consistently available on Memorial Day.
But, much like Target, they will operate with alternate hours, so it is best to double check.
Restaurants with alternate hours on Memorial Day include:
Chick-fil-A Chipotle Denny’s Domino’s Dunkin IHOP Jersey Mike’s Noodles Olive Garden Panera Bread Pizza Hut Ruth’s Chris Steak House Starbucks Taco Bell Waffle House Wendy’sKEY SERVICES
But there are key services, including with the major US banks and delivery services that will be frozen for Memorial Day.
The US Sun confirmed that Bank of America and CitiBank will remain closed for Monday May 26.
Other banks that have announced their intention to close on Memorial Day include Wells Fargo, Chase and JPMorgan.
Most other big banks will also be closed.

Postal services with FedEx and UPS are also extremely limited on Memorial Day.
Most of FedEx‘s pickup and delivery services will not be available at all for customers, and the same can be said for UPS.
Both are running very limited services for the entire 24 hour period.
FedEx Custom Critical is available on the day, as well as the UPS Express Critical service.
