New York Jets first-round pick models game to crosstown rival star and sends message to new head coach Aaron Glenn

NEW York Jets first-round pick Armand Membou wants to play like a rival player to be successful in the league.

The Jets‘ 2025 No. 6 overall pick also shared his thoughts on his new head coach, Aaron Glenn.

The rookie Membou, 21, played three seasons at Missouri, and his last two saw him start at right tackle.

And Membou was impressive in the 2024 campaign, as he was on the field for 392 pass block snaps and allowed no sacks, no quarterback hits, and just eight quarterback pressures, per The 33rd Team.

Membou shared with The U.S. Sun that he grew up idolizing future Hall of Famer Tyron Smith, a former Jet, but he has recently been enamored with becoming the next Andrew Thomas, who dons the crosstown rival New York Giants uniform.

“The first lineman I kind’ve started watching was Tyron Smith back in high school or early college. And then lately, I like watching Andrew Thomas,” he said.

Thomas would be a good player to emulate as he’s been exceptional when he’s on the field.

The left tackle earned a Second-Team All-Pro nod in the 2022 season and signed a five–year, $117.5 million contract extension in the following offseason.

However, Thomas has played in 16 of a possible 34 games in the past two campaigns due to injury.

Membou is slated to be the Jets’ starting right tackle to protect the Jets’ new starting quarterback in Justin Fields.

Membou will also be coached by the new head coach, Glenn.

The rookie Membou told The U.S. Sun that he’s enjoyed communicating with him at the Jets’ facility.

“I’m just excited to get to work,” Membou said.

“I like Coach Glenn a lot, so it’s been fun to get to know him these past couple of days.”

Membou got to work at the team’s rookie minicamp earlier this month.

He will now participate in the Jets’ OTAs (Organized Team Activities)

Membou has been impressed with the way that the charismatic Glenn carries himself and how he wants his players to work.

“Just the hard work mentality. You can just tell by the way he talks,” Membou said about what he sees in Glenn.

    “He’s a dude who’s about his business.”

Membou did get the sense that he was going to be Jet before getting the call from Glenn about being the team’s first-round pick last month.

“I saw [the news of myself being picked by the Jets] got leaked on Twitter, but Coach Glenn and I had a FaceTime call a couple of days before the draft, so I had a good feeling,” he told The U.S. Sun

    Membou Speaks About London Game

The Jets will play in London in 2025 and host the Denver Broncos in a Week 6 game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It will be the Jets’ third game at Tottenham’s soccer club stadium in five seasons.

Membou told The U.S. Sun that he’s never been to London.

Still, the 21-year-old believes that playing in London will be memorable.

“To be able to play overseas, (it’s) going to be a very blessed experience and cool to witness,” Membou said.

The Jets will hope to earn their second win in London.
