Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan co-headlined the Outlaw Music Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Friday, May 16.
Nelson, 92, took the stage with his iconic guitar “Trigger” to play classics like “On the Road Again” and “You Were Always on My Mind.” The award-winning artist was joined by his family band and his son Micah.

As for Dylan, 83, he managed to power through some technical difficulties to perform blues-rock renditions of “All Along the Watchtower” and “Simple Twist of Fate.”
This Outlaw Music Festival is particularly special, as it marks the 10-year anniversary of the event. The tour includes 35 stops across North America, with Nelson and Dylan performing at each event. The co-headliners will be joined by various artists on select dates.
Of course, this is hardly the first time Dylan and Nelson have worked together. In 2004, 2005, and 2009, the duo co-headlined a series of concerts as a part of Dylan’s Never Ending Tour.
They have also performed songs live together, including “Heartland,” which they co-wrote for Nelson’s 1993 album Across the Borderline.
Dylan and Nelson met in Durango, Mexico, in 1973 while on the set of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid starring Kris Kristofferson.

“I asked Bob, ‘Why isn’t Willie famous? He’s a genius,’” Kristofferson, who died at 88 years old in September 2024, recalled in an August 2010 interview with Classic Rock.
“So, the next day, Bob calls Willie up and gets him to come down to the set, and he made him play his old Martin guitar for ten hours straight,” Kristofferson continued. “They ended up doing all these old Django Reinhardt tunes. It was fabulous.”
