JAYSON TATUM’S ‘Superman’ commercial has been PULLED following his career-altering week.
The Boston Celtics star has been on a crash course to superstardom in recent seasons.
After headlining the franchise’s first NBA title since 2008 last year and securing a gold medal at the Olympics albeit in a reserve role for the USA in their Paris triumph, Tatum was on the path to league-leading status.
The Celtics had spent much of their back-to-back title pursuit locked in a playoff tussle with the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference second round before exiting in a Game 6 loss.
A crucial turning point in the best-of-seven series was Game 4, which saw Tatum leave the game in the closing exchanges with what was subsequently determined to be a ruptured right Achilles after a stunning 42-point haul.
During the playoffs, advertisements with NBA players typically skyrocket. This year’s rotation included a commercial with Tatum endorsing Warner Bros Discovery’s next Superman film.
Sportico’s Jacob Feldman claims that the advertisement is being removed in response to the Celtics player’s horrific Achilles injury.
A statement read: “An ad promoting the July 11 release of Superman made its debut last week starring the 27-year-old All-NBA player, who rips away a button-down shirt to reveal a red and yellow S on his chest after the titular hero takes the day off and numerous voices ask, ‘Who’s going to sub in for Superman?’
“A follow-up spot explains Clark Kent was shirking his duties to watch the NBA playoffs.
“The commercials were already receiving mixed reactions online, given they landed as Boston faced a 2-0 deficit in a second-round series with the New York Knicks. Now, they’re gone. The campaign has been indefinitely suspended following Tatum’s long-term injury, according to a person familiar with the decision.”
According to Sportico, it made 185 appearances overall since making its debut on May 5.
In the commercial, Tatum played Superman for a day after the superhero took a day off to watch the NBA playoffs, wearing the red-and-yellow “S” on his chest.

After a speedy operation, Tatum is now sidelined for an extended period time and is expected to miss the majority of next season as as the Boston organisation enters a summer of turbulence after mid-season ownership sale.
The team has stated that “no timetable is currently available for his return, but he is expected to make a full recovery. Further updates will be provided when appropriate.”
