Texas clinched the SEC regular-season championship on Thursday night with a 7-4 win over Oklahoma. Right fielder Max Belyeu delivered a go-ahead 3-run homer in the ninth to lift the Longhorns (41-10, 21-7 SEC) over their Red River rivals.
The Longhorns entered the evening with a 2-game lead in the SEC title race, but a magic number of just 1 to secure at least a share of the regular-season title. Tennessee delivered the Longhorns an outright title with a 10-7 win over the Razorbacks.
Texas became the first team to win the SEC in its debut season in the league since the SEC’s inaugural campaign in 1933.
After the win, first-year head coach Jim Schlossnagle called the achievement the peak of college baseball.
“Winning an SEC title during the regular season is harder than winning a national championship,” Schlossnagle told reporters. “We want to win a national title, but this (is) a test of endurance and grit, and obviously having a good team. I’m really proud of our players and the staff.”

— SEC Network (@SECNetwork) May 16, 2025Schlossnagle has won plenty of conference championships during his career, and made more than a few trips to the College World Series. In his 18 seasons at TCU, the skipper won 7 consecutive Mountain West regular-season titles and 3 regular-season Big 12 titles. He led Texas A&M to the CWS twice in his 3 years with the program and won 6 CWS games at a program that previously had just 2 CWS victories in its history.
A&M fell to Tennessee in the national championship last season.
The Longhorns want to reach that best-of-3 championship series. The latest College World Series odds give them the seventh-shortest odds of winning it all.
“These guys are resilient like most championship teams are,” Schlossnagle said. “They play to a standard and not a scoreboard, just like we preach.”
Texas closes out the regular season with 2 more games against Oklahoma on Friday and Saturday. The SEC Tournament in Hoover, Alabama, begins on May 20.
